Midsummer at Gård: Celebrating the Season with Three New Wines
Each year, the summer solstice marks one of the most important celebrations in Scandinavian culture—a celebration of light, abundance, and the arrival of the year’s longest day. Across the Nordic countries, Midsummer gatherings bring people outdoors to share meals, spend time with friends and family, and savor the fleeting season of endless daylight.
At Gård Estate Wines, we honor this celebration and our heritage each year with our Summer Solstice Release of bright, estate‑grown wines that capture the freshness, lift, and long‑day energy of early summer.
The timing is meaningful beyond our Scandinavian roots. The summer solstice also marks an important turning point in the vineyard season on the Royal Slope, when spring growth begins giving way to fruit development and the shape of the vintage starts to emerge.
What the Summer Solstice Means in the Vineyard
On the Royal Slope, the summer solstice arrives just as flowering is finishing and fruit set becomes visible. The vines have spent spring building canopy and establishing the framework for the season ahead. By late June, growers can begin to see the first clues about the vintage taking shape as clusters develop and the focus gradually shifts from growth toward ripening.
The solstice also brings the longest days of the year and the maximum amount of sunlight our vineyards will receive. Combined with the Royal Slope’s warm afternoons and cool nights, these conditions help lay the foundation for the balance, freshness, and character that define our wines. It’s a natural moment to celebrate both the season and the promise of the vintage ahead.
Introducing the 2025 Solstice Release
This year’s Summer Solstice Release features three wines that each capture a different expression of summer: the bright and welcoming 2025 Freyja White Blend, the elegant and refreshing 2025 Rosé, and the debut of our playful new 2025 Carbonic Pinot Noir.
2025 Freyja White Blend
Named for Freyja, the Norse goddess of love, beauty, and fertility, this Rhône-inspired white blend feels perfectly suited to a season centered around growth and abundance. Bright, aromatic, and beautifully balanced, the 2025 Freyja combines freshness with just enough texture to make it equally enjoyable on its own or at the table.
Pair it with grilled fish, light pasta dishes, seasonal vegetables, or a leisurely lunch outdoors. It’s a wine that captures the easygoing pace of summer while still offering plenty of complexity in the glass.
2025 Rosé
Our annual rosé release has become a hallmark of the season, and the 2025 vintage continues that tradition. Refined, mineral-driven, and vibrant, it offers the freshness and precision that make rosé one of our favorite wines for warm-weather drinking. Whether paired with oysters, seafood, crisp salads, or a spread of small plates shared among friends, this is a wine that feels right at home on the patio, at the picnic table, or alongside a thoughtfully prepared meal.
Introducing: 2025 Carbonic Pinot Noir
Making its first appearance in the Gård lineup, the 2025 Carbonic Pinot Noir offers a fresh perspective on one of the world’s most beloved varieties.
Produced using carbonic maceration, this wine showcases Pinot Noir at its most youthful and expressive. Bright fruit, savory complexity, and a vibrant personality come together in a style that is approachable, energetic, and made for summer enjoyment. While many red wines are associated with cooler weather, this Pinot was crafted with warm evenings and outdoor gatherings in mind. Serve it slightly chilled with charcuterie, grilled salmon, or wood-fired pizza and enjoy it with good company as the sun lingers late into the evening.
