ABOUT THE COLLECTION SERIES
Gård Vintners' Collection Series aims to showcase the unique characteristics of our specific estate vineyard sites farmed sustainably on the Royal Slope. Lawrence Vineyards provides an excellent framework for grape production, while the diversity of each location delivers a high level of uniqueness and complexity to our wines. We recommend tasting through our Collection Series in the order listed below.
2017 CORFU CROSSING VINEYARD CABERNET SAUVIGNON
Planted 2008. 1,400-1,460 ft elevation. Row orientation: N/S. South slope. Soil profile: Taunton silt loam. Farmed using organic practices.
The Corfu Crossing vineyards sits on fine sandy loam and silt. This vineyard is not heavily structured, but has an ideal balance of tannin and fruit presentation. This site is fairly vigorous and produces a more savory style with black and green olive being consistent in its aromatic profile. Fermented in 100% stainless steel tanks and blended after 10 months. Lower in alcohol, similar to Laura Lee, it has fine tannins an abundance of black fruits and garrigue. The palate is forward with fruit sweetness and lots of minerals and spice. 2017 LAURA LEE VINEYARD CABERNET SAUVIGNON
Planted 2008. 1,125-1,135 ft elevation. Row orientation: N/S. West slope. Soil profile: Ekrub fine sand. Sustainably farmed.
The Laura Lee vineyard sits at roughly 1,100 feet on a mixture of fine sandy loam soils. The cool nights in the fall tend to slow the ripening in this vineyard leaving us with brighter red fruits, lower alcohol, and higher acids. Fermented in 65% concrete and 35% stainless steel tanks and blended after 10 months. The nose is highlighted by bright and juicy red currants, plum, dried strawberry and sandalwood, with a background of lightly roasted coffee. The palate is bright with sweet red fruit, medium body and a floral lift on the finish. It’s impeccably balanced and shows a softer side of Cabernet Sauvignon. More about Laura Lee Vineyard.
2017 SOLAKSEN VINEYARD CABERNET SAUVIGNON
Planted 2013.1,416-1,462 ft elevation. Row orientation: SW. South Slope
Soil Profile: Adkins very fine sandy loam.
Made from clone 191 from our newer Solaksen vineyard, this is our first wine exclusively from this site. Planted at 25 degrees off-axis, the Solaksen vineyard was planted primarily to Bordeaux varietals and off-axis to minimize the solar exposure differences on the east and west side of the vine. This produces wines with terrific color and plush textures. This wine was fermented in 100% concrete tanks and blended after 10 months. The nose features dark and spiced cassis, black currants, plum skin and bloomed vanilla bean, and the palate is round and plush with super fine tannins and pressed black fruits and baking spice on the finish. 2017 SCARLINE VINEYARD CABERNET SAUVIGNON
Planted 2003. 1,365-1,430 ft elevation. Row orientation: N/S. West slope. Soil profile: Adkins very fine sandy loam. Sustainably farmed.
Made from our oldest vineyard on fine sandy loam, this wine was made only using clone 6 grapes which are known for small, loose clusters and lower tonnage, and on this site the yield tends to be on the lower end of the spectrum, which produces intensely colored and structured wines. Fermented in 100% stainless steel and blended after 10 months. The aromatics are saturated in red and black fruits, black tea and vanilla bean, with a dusty minerality and dried herbs – the aromatics provide insight into how densely packed this palate is with black fruits and spice, significantly more structure than the other vineyards in a sleek and powerful package.
